Things to Do Before Moving Day

Moving day can be quite hectic. However, there are a few things that you can do to cut down on the stress, and ensure your move goes smoothly. Rather than leaving everything until the last minute, here are a few things you can do in the days preceding the move that will help.

Clean Out Your Home

Go through the home room by room, and get everything organized. There are probably going to be a lot of things that you do not want to move. Most people do not realize how much stuff they accumulate until they have to move it, so a lot of things can be thrown away or donated. If you have hired a moving company, it will be ready for them to begin packing. One example of packing and crating companies new jersey is Fast Moving Company.

t is easier to do this now, and it won’t add to all you have to do when unpacking at your new home. Moving things that you do not want or need just takes up more space in the moving truck. This is also an opportunity to clean as you organize, since you will want to make sure the home is in good shape when you leave.

Taking Care of Utilities

Talk to the utility companies and inform them of the dates you want utilities turned off at your current home and on at your new home. You could get so busy that this could slip your mind, and you do not want to spend the first couple of nights after you move with no power or water. This is also a good time to put in your change of address, so your mail is covered.

Check Out the New Neighborhood

It is a good idea to visit the new neighborhood a few times before your move and get an idea of the layout. You will need to know where certain things are located. See if grocery stores, schools, drug stores, and other places you may need to go are nearby. If you are moving to another city, you will want to make sure you know the route and if there are alternate ways to avoid heavy traffic, particularly at certain times of the day.
